Record Entries Accepted For U.S. Girls' Junior June 10, 2010 By USGA

Far Hills, N.J. – The United States Golf Association has accepted a record 1,005 entries for the 2010 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, which will be played July 19-24 at The Country Club of North Carolina in the Village of Pinehurst, N.C.

It is the first time the USGA has received more than 1,000 entries for the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship. The previous record of 999 entries was set in 2009.

We are thrilled by the record number of entries for the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, which really reflects the growth of the game among young female golfers, said Barbara Douglas, chairman of the USGA Women’s Committee. We are particularly grateful to the state, regional and junior golf associations, which helped the USGA promote the championship to its members.

Twelve players are currently fully exempt into the championship, led by 2007 champion Kristen Park. Eight players became fully exempt when they qualified for the 2010 U.S. Women’s Open.

The remainder of the field of 156 players will be filled via sectional qualifying at 30 sites, which began June 9 and will conclude on July 1. A sectional qualifier will be played at Furman University Golf Club in Greenville, S.C., on June 14.
